The entire project is loosely based on a short story written by Depeña that has helped him formulate a series of work called “The Fallen Sky Chronicles”. The narrative depicts a fictional artist’s technological mistake that begins a disruption in real-world time and space. The artist’s piece “Lapse” creates an alternate reality that fuses with the physical realm, until the artist can no longer distinguish between the two. The augmented reality project creates “real-life” experiences from this fiction scenario that are intended to explored in person.
The following is an excerpt:
“No one knew what happened or how “the event” unfolded. Although, everyone felt that something was different. It was as if the familiar had collided with the unfamiliar. Time seemed to be passing more slowly. Matter, as they knew it had been shaken loose and the objects and spaces had morphed in and out, and in again. The delicate stitches holding their realities together, and those of other dimensions, had begun to unravel. Every fired synapse had a causal relationship to the physical environment. Their eyes were the projectors of a new, unfolding story. People had been awakened into their own dreams and the diseased neon landscape (however morphed by the disruption) had been meticulously reassembled by the indescribable force.”
