App Store Description
The Made in Derby app is an integrated part of the Made in Derby floor plaque installation along Albion Street and Exchange Street in Derby City centre. Each plaque celebrates a hero or heroine who were Made in Derby, as suggested by a public nomination.
By using the app to scan the plaques, the particular Made in Derby star will be brought to life via augmented reality. Their story, essence or achievement will take the form of purpose-made 3D and film content that appears in situ on the street, through your smartphone, for you to freely interact with.
The plaques are made of iron, cast at a local foundry, and the inner star is composed of artfully grouted mosaic which displays the name of the Made in Derby person. Similar to a barcode, the contrasting black and white mosaic pieces render a highly effective and unique marker for the app to work with. The project brings together a variety of manufacturing and creative disciplines, under one roof, to tell the story of Derby.
