What is it about?

Are you a fan of English literature? Are you curious about where your favourite authors lived and wrote? No city in the world can rival London for its literary heritage and with the MapVille Literary London app you can now follow in the footsteps of the authors you’ve read and admired over the years. Whether you are a tourist in London or a resident of the capital (or even just a curious armchair traveller anywhere in the world) this app will show you the sites associated with the great writers who have made the city their home over the past several hundred years. The app includes almost 300 sites related to around 150 different novelists, poets and playwrights. Coloured pins indicate an author’s era: early, Georgian, Victorian and modern – as well as sites associated with multiple authors. You can view all the sites at once if you like, or you can scroll through the list of authors to show only sites associated with a particular writer. Sites displayed include the addresses associated with William Shakespeare, the homes where Jane Austen lived during her extended stays in London, Charles Dickens’ many residences, the sites associated with the members of the Bloomsbury Group, as well as the graves of the Victorian authors Anthony Trollope, George Eliot and William Makepeace Thackeray. Want to know if any authors of note lived or worked near you at any time while you’re out and about in London? Just tap the ‘Nearest’ button and the app will display the closest literary site.
