Moka Mera Emotions is a playful, educational application for children where they can explore and learn how to identify their emotions using emotional filters and picture cards. This app can be used in early childhood education by children together with their teachers, or at home with their parents as a tool to identify and discuss different emotions.
By tapping the emoticons in the app, representing 20 different emotions, the image of the child’s face will change accordingly. The face becomes e.g. sad, surprised, angry, or happy. There are different emotional filters and sound effects to support the emotion.
You can choose your language in the app (English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Mandarin, Japanese, Hindi, Swedish, and Finnish). There are also 20 picture cards with Moka Mera, the little monster, representing the same 20 emotions. For some children, it can be easier to start with the picture cards.
By holding your finger on the mirror you can see how you look naturally and compare it to the emotional filter picture of yourself. You can turn off the sound by tapping the microphone. You can take pictures of yourself by holding the chosen emoticon. In the gallery, there is room for 15 photos. You can either save the photos there or delete them. You can also save them on your own device, and from there print or share them.
There are 7 core emotions, all with a different color around the emoticon. You can choose only to see the 7 core emotions at the start by tapping the quantity button in the app. There are 13 additional emotions, with a color code connecting them to one of the core emotions to which they are linked. By tapping the same button you can see all 20 emotions. The emotions in the app are: Happy, Surprised, Sad, Angry, Disgusted, Afraid, Love (core emotions) and Proud, Curious, Lonely, Ashamed, Disappointed, Jealous, Bored, Sleepy, Shy, Worried, Nervous, Relieved, and Me (no specific emotion).
Moka Mera Emotions is safe for children to use, which means we don’t collect any data, it’s free from advertising, and it contains no in-app purchases. The application works offline and no internet connection is necessary. It is based on the Finnish curriculum for early childhood education and we have cooperated with researchers, experts, and teachers, to produce the best possible content.
The child might not be familiar with all the emotions in the app. By giving examples, telling stories, reading books, and playing with the emotions in the app, you can help the child to name and identify new emotions. This will be your key to opening a meaningful discussion with the child about emotions, as well as understanding and managing them. When children become good at recognizing and describing their feelings, it’s easier to advance to the next step: showing empathy towards others—a vital life skill.
This is a fun way to explore the range of emotions we have, and the app works as a basis for meaningful discussions. More information at mokamera.com , where you can also find suitable questions to use in the discussions with the children, as well as educational lesson plans,
developed by experts.
Happy playing!
