App Store Description

The Citizen Science Information Collaboration (CSIC) is an environmental reporting application allowing citizens to report conditions such as red tide effects (respiratory irritation, water discoloration, and dead fish), beach conditions (crowds, debris, etc.), and inland conditions (freshwater algae blooms, odors, wildlife fatalities, etc) that are viewable to the public.

This app was developed by the Environmental Health (Dr. Tracy Fanara) and Phytoplankton Ecology (Dr. Vincent Lovko) Departments at Mote Marine Laboratory, an independent, non-profit marine research organization based in Sarasota, Florida. This self-funded app was created to protect public health, enhance communication of environmental conditions, notify regulators of environmental hazards or changes, improve data collection, increase reporting between Beach Conditions Reporting System (BCRS) reports, which are made by trained Beach Ambassadors at participating Florida beaches, and to empower the public by giving them a voice in their public report.
