Motivic Designs

Motivic Designs is an interactive music app for exploring melodic designs. You provide the formula (idea), then the app generates a melodic sequence based on that formula.

All musicians and music educators: generate technical exercises tailored to your specific needs. The possibilities are nearly endless, the equivalent of dozens of musical exercise books!

Improvisers: emulate, and learn from, phrases, melodies, or licks that you like. Simply design the pattern based on a figure you like in the phrase, then generate a sequence which shows you the idea in all permutations through the scale.

Composers: discover possible variations of an idea that you wish to develop in your compositions.

Your creations may be saved or emailed as a pdf or a MusicXML file. MusicXML files can then be opened and further edited in all the leading music editing software (Sibelius, Finale, MuseScore, etc.).

Explore dozens of modes and keys, including all major/minor modes, melodic minor modes, diminished (octatonic), pentatonic, blues, augmented, and major 6th diminished modes!

Built-in audio player allows you to listen to and play along to the sequence or scale!
