The Fort de la Pompelle Museum iPad App offers additional content (audio video and text) providing visitors with an in-depth view of the daily life of soldiers in the First World War.
The Fort de la Pompelle was built in 1883 with seven other fortifications, in order to create a defensive ring around Reims, following the 1870 War. Originally designed as secondary defence, its proximity to the front line transformed it into one of the keystones of the defensive system of Reims during the First World War. As such, it is considered a symbol of the strength of the city, which experienced bombings almost daily between 1914 and 1918.
The Museum interior was redesigned in June 2014 and the new scenography aims to recreate the atmosphere of being in the trenches, through audio and video effects, showcasing the second French collection dedicated to the First World War. The iPad app takes our visitors further into this experience, offering extra multimedia content to complement the on-site collection.
