What is it about?

Bilingual medical students and physicians often find themselves encountering patients that share the same non-English language. Ideally, these healthcare practitioners would also be familiar with medical terminology in the patient’s mother tongue -- but this is not always the case. While many medical students and clinicians may be conversationally fluent in a patient’s native language, they may not be knowledgeable or comfortable conversing through a patient encounter.

App Store Description

Bilingual medical students and physicians often find themselves encountering patients that share the same non-English language. Ideally, these healthcare practitioners would also be familiar with medical terminology in the patient’s mother tongue -- but this is not always the case. While many medical students and clinicians may be conversationally fluent in a patient’s native language, they may not be knowledgeable or comfortable conversing through a patient encounter.

MyLingual MD is the educational tool that aspires to address this issue: advance the medical fluency of bilingual healthcare practitioners to strengthen communication in the patient’s native language, consequently optimizing health outcomes. The app allows healthcare practitioners to learn and practice communicating with patients in a language in which they are conversationally fluent.

The app’s current version allows for users to learn and practice medical terminology in these other languages through flashcards. Future versions of the app may include other modes of learning, such as voice-over recordings and simulated conversations with patients that speak these languages.
