App Store Description

This is a location based interactive spatial sound exhibition for the international Ars Electronica Media Arts Festival in Linz, Austria.

Explore how virtual sounds from natural environments, insects, birds, animals and water mix with physical city noises and how this experience changes the perception of the space around you.

Stereospacer is a mobile application platform for Augmented Audio Reality. Virtual sounds are placed in space and appear as binaural spatial sounds for users when they explore these spaces. A decreased distance to the audio source increases the volume while the direction of the sound is rendered in realtime in relation to the listener’s position. The augmented audio layers can change the perception and thus the quality of spaces.

Stereospacer is an ongoing stereophonic research project about how mobile stereophony will change navigation and movement through space.

1. Put on your headphones (for binaural 3D Audio)
2. Point your device in the direction where you’re looking
3. Go out and explore Linz!

This application will need access to your location in order to work.
Please note that this application makes use of geolocation and GPS services to play sounds around your current location. Continued use of GPS running in the background can decrease battery life.
At no point any location data is transmitted, analyzed or given to third parties. Your location is just used in order to play back the sounds.
