Research has shown there is a link between how you see your body and the feeling of pain. Phantom limb pain and mirror therapy show how illusions can reduce pain. Nottingham uses your smartphone and its camera to provide an illusion that your hand and fingers are either stretching or compressing and this has an effect on the feeling of pain in the hand and fingers and also can increase the range of motion.
