NYC Know Your Vote is an application that will encourage political participation and interest in New York City for the upcoming Democratic primaries in June. Our goal is simple: ensure that information about the election races of several key government leadership positions is easily accessible to every citizen in New York City via their phone.

This app will allow users to easily navigate the different campaigns and candidates to cast an informed vote for each elected office. The app will provide information about the candidate’s background, current campaign, and stances on the issues related to their office. We provide easily digestible policy stances for each candidate, allowing you to know how your elected officials will affect your city. There is no existing software or application that makes the process of scrutinizing and choosing a candidate for a New York City resident.

For too long, the government of New York City has been chosen by an abysmal proportion of the eligible voting population. Mayor Bill de Blasio easily won reelection in 2017, with only 8.5% of the New York City population casting votes on his behalf. This coming June, the Democratic nominee for mayor will be chosen in a city where Democrats outnumber Republicans 6 to 1. Other high-ranking leadership positions such as Public Advocate and Comptroller will be on the ballot as well. The new leadership of New York City will be taking over during the most consequential time in New York City’s recent memory. Between developing the post-pandemic economy, rethinking policing, the devastation to small businesses, improving access to education, and many other issues of high importance, the next group of elected officials will have their hands full. New Yorkers must have the tools available to make the best decision for themselves and their city.
