App Store Description

Ontario Reptile and Amphibian Atlas App

The Ontario Reptile and Amphibian Atlas App is digital pocket guide for all of Ontario’s reptiles and amphibians that allows you to keep track of your sightings and report them to this provincial citizen science initiative.

Ontario Nature manages the atlas. Established in 1931, the charitable organization’s mission is to protect wild species and wild spaces through conservation, education and public engagement. Ontario Nature represents more than 30,000 members and supporters, and 150 member groups across Ontario.

App Features:

- Up-to-date information on all 53 species of reptiles and amphibians that are found in Ontario

- Profiles for each species include a colour photo gallery, interactive range maps and detailed descriptions

- With the phone’s internal mapping software, camera and clock, users can submit their sightings to the atlas in less than 30 seconds

- App is functional offline and only requires access to the Internet for submissions and use of Google Maps

- People can submit data off location data whenever convenient, not just from where they observed the species

- The app includes a two-way UTM to Latitude and Longitude converter.

- Users can keep track of their individual sightings through the ‘My Observations’ tab

This project is supported by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Species at Risk Stewardship Fund, and the Environment Canada Habitat Stewardship Program.
