The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Outdoor Eating App contains over 80 delicious recipes for everyone who enjoys the great outdoors whether you are camping, caravanning, backpacking, boating or cycling.
The recipes offer something for everyone; from the all-in-one-pan breakfast, chilli and basil burgers and campfire chips, to stroganoff, chickpea and feta fritters and apple and cinnamon porridge. There are meals and snacks, meat or vegetarian options, and high energy food for those on long expeditions. Many use five ingredients or less and some take less than 10 minutes to prepare.
All the recipes are for 4 people but you can add or reduce ingredients for different size groups. Recipes have been grouped specifically for backpacking as space, weight and the ability to keep things cold are more important for this type of camping.
Other features of the DofE app allow you to store your favourite recipes, prepare a day planner and download a shopping list in the ‘My Stuff’ area. In the ‘Extras’ area there is useful information on key kitchen equipment to take, some simple food basics to liven up meals and a conversion table if you haven’t got weighing scales.
The app includes a DofE Facebook and Twitter feed so users can vote on recipes they like or don’t!
