Pain Stethoscope- Assessing Pain: The “fifth” vital sign
‘Pain Stethoscope’ is an iOS compatible tool introduced by Mundipharma to assess and graph patient-reported outcomes of chronic pain management over time.
Pain metrics like NRS (Numeric Rating Scale), interference with activities of daily living and interference with sleep, are displayed on a clinical flow-sheet and captured at each patient visit. Pain Stethoscope is designed to be brief, easy to use and visual, allowing patients and providers to better understand the relationship between chronic pain treatments and outcomes that matter to patients.

Use of Pain Stethoscope or similar brief assessment tools actively engages patients in the selection and assessment of personally important goals and outcomes. Longitudinal tracking is then graphically displayed at the time of each subsequent encounter so that treatment of pain, interference with daily activities and sleep is immediately visible to treatment provider and the patient, fostering improved communication, collaboration, and self-management.
