PHONE CALLS

ROKA AND THAKA

CHOODA CHADHANA & KALIDE CEREMONY
The maternal uncle or mama and his wife would gift a set of 21 bangles – red/maroon and white/ivory in color.
The sisters and friends of the bride tie umbrella shaped figures called kalide to the chooda of the bride.

HALDI CEREMONY(Girl)
paste of turmeric acts like a scrub or cleansing agent and gives a shine to the face and hands of the bride/groom.

SEHRABANDI
Red colored turban or headgear called sehra is done by the priest and it is then wrapped around the head of the bridegroom by his brother or cousin or male member.

AGWAANI AND MILNI
This is the ritual which marks the arrival of the groom on his horse with his procession in tow. They are welcomed at the entrance by the family members of the bride.It is common for the relatives from both sides to hug each other and also shake hands. This ritual is called agwaani or milni.

WEDDING
The ceremony takes place at the Gurudwara prayer hall. The Guru Granth Sahib is placed at a site of prominence and the marriage ceremony is designed around it. The ceremony starts with the couple and their parents standing up to offer Ardaas to ‘Waheguru’, after which singing of Shabads or hymns is done.
