qodebeam

qodebeam is a secure personal database which sits in the user's pocket. It can be backed up on a PC and used for exchanging data with services implementing qodebeam APIs.

Users can
- manually add database entries, which are managed by topics and keys
- share entries with services that are clients of the qodebeam service
- receive new entries from services that are clients of the qodebeam service
- backup the database on a PC

Exchanging data with services implementing the qodebeam API is done by scanning a QR code. After the user approves the exchange, the data is sent to / received from the service through a secure TLS connection.

qodebeam is meant to be used for authentication, authorization, data verification and/or usage by 3rd party services. Its purpose is to simplify the 3rd party services, by minimizing the user data to store. At the same time, it strives to secure user data, by keeping it in a single place, the user's smartphone. For this, an encrypted database is managed by the app. The database can be backed up at any time on a PC and restored, in case the app has been deleted or the smartphone has been lost. The database itself is strongly encrypted (AES256), which makes it impossible for an ill-intended party to access its data, even if access to the files is possible.

The app accesses the qodebeam backend only, which is not a paid service. The purpose for doing so is sharing data with third party services that are clients of the qodebeam backend. To share/exchange data, the user ALWAYS has to take action and then approve the operation. It is not possible for services to pull data without user involvement.

The app and its access to the qodebeam backend are completely free.
There are no extra subscriptions or fees required to use the app and the backend service. Moreover, after creating a personal database in the app, no extra accounts have to be obtained. Everything will work our of the box.
