Based on the paper of Science Magazine, “Could Pulses in Earth’s Magnetic Field Forecast Earthquakes? and some other earthquake research, the Earth magnetic field may changes violently several weeks to several minutes before an earthquake really happens. So a compass can be used as an earthquake forecast tool.

The way to use this app is as follows. Put your phone on a table. Press the start button to start tracking the earth magnetic field. If the earth magnetic field changes suddenly and its values exceed a specified threshold level, the alarm will be turned on. For testing, you can rotate the phone to check if the alarm is working. Make sure that no magnet is near the phone and don’t use a phone case with magnetic button.

The data of time stamp, magnetic field and GPS location is automatically stored in files for up to 100 days. You can always turn on the app in the background and download the data to your computer for earthquake research.
