Reset! Conference
What is it about?
Welcome to the conference Reset! Towards digital, climate and regional justice. Join us on September 5th and be part of the conversation on the post-crisis reset our economy needs. Try turning it off and back on again โ How many times we have recommended this to fix tech and software problems? With the outbreak, our economy was suddenly and dramatically turned off. The outbreak did not just cause suffering by taking away our loved ones lives, but also by making many of us lose our job, or by forcing us to live in isolation. Now it is time to restart! But what is it we want to fix in our post-corona economy? We need a reset! We don't want to go back to the economy that put our planet, public health and income are at risk, and failed to live up to its promise of increasing living standards for the many. We need a reset! So that we can construct a system where sustainability prevails over resource depletion; where economic opportunities and wealth are distributed across people and regions rather than concentrated in few hands or big urban agglomerates; a system where finance does not mean speculation, but support for the real economy; an economy where data unleashes citizens' and businesses creativity, instead of undermining their autonomy. The stakes are clear. If we want to come out of this crisis better than it was before, if we want to build a fair and sustainable post-corona economy, we need progressive leadership. We do need a reset. And we are ready to take the lead! This Reset! conference offers the opportunity to reflect on the best way to restart. With the contribution of leading academics and progressive politicians we will identify new ideas for economic policymaking that combines wealth creation with social, climate, digital and regional justice. Indeed, we are not likely to find the answers in a single day. This is why the digital and physical gathering of Saturday 5 September is only the first part of an open process of collective reflection to find ideas to design an economic system that is conducive to social, climate, digital and regional justice. PvdA, PES, the S&D Group and FEPS are starting to paint the picture of a new economic alternative that social democrats across Europe are building to secure a sustainable and progressive future.
