The award-winning Simply Sayin’™ app uses pictures, sounds and a family-friendly glossary of terms to facilitate clear conversations between the healthcare provider, child, and family. Used by Child Life Specialists in hospitals around the world, parents can also use this information to promote positive health care experiences for their children before heading to see the doctor.
The medical jargon health care professionals use can be overwhelming to children, because they process information differently than adults. Simply Sayin’™ is a mobile resource to help medical professionals provide developmentally appropriate explanations of medical terminology and common procedures. This app reinforces teach back techniques that have become the standard of care.
Features of Simply Sayin’™ include:
- Alphabetized glossary of terms
- Illustrations and photographs
- Anatomical images that can be drawn on free hand to
illustrate surgical procedures and medical conditions
- Sound clips
- Ability to switch between English and Spanish for all menus and content
Simply Sayin’™ was developed by Certified Child Life Specialists at Phoenix Children's Hospital. Child Life Specialists help patients better understand and cope with their medical experiences.
This app was jointly produced by Phoenix Children’s Hospital Child Life Department, the Patient and family Alumni League (PALs), and Valley Leadership of Phoenix, Ariz.
