App Store Description

Spaces of Flow is a companion app to Knowledge Matters, Ben van Berkel and Caroline Bos' latest book. In this richly illustrated interactive book, Van Berkel and Bos reveal their unique insights into the design and development of Arnhem Central Station.

Dutch architects Ben van Berkel and Caroline Bos co-founded the internationally acclaimed architectural design practice UNStudio in 1988. For almost thirty years they have been motivated by the desire for discovering new approaches to architecture and creating innovative solutions. Throughout this time, they have continuously shared their insights, knowledge and experiences through countless lectures, articles and publications.

Knowledge Matters, which is available from Frame Publishers, outlines recent expansions to the profession of architecture and explores the implications and challenges of placing research at the core of architectural practice. Eleven ‘knowledge tools’ that have been developed by UNStudio illustrate how specific approaches and techniques materialise across a series of projects.

In the accompanying app, Spaces of Flow, Van Berkel and Bos elaborate further on the application of knowledge and resilient concepts in the design and development of the recently completed Arnhem Central Station. Taking 19 years to complete, Arnhem Central Station has already won numerous awards and is a masterclass in architectural design and urban planning, demonstrating how transport infrastructure can be designed from an in depth understanding of movement and flow.
