Sports Injury Test
What is it about?
Serious knee injuries can happen to any athlete, on any playing field, at any age. There is no way to completely prevent these injuries, but there are tests that can identify risk factors associated with knee injuries. Some of these risk factors are associated with the athlete’s technique during jumping, landing, cutting and pivoting tasks. Other risk factors are commonly correlated with strength deficits, namely in the hips, hamstrings and quadriceps. If we can identify these risk factors in athletes, we can recommend certain areas to concentrate on during the athlete’s training regimen in order to decrease their risk of injury. The Sportsmetrics Sports Injury Test helps identify some of these risk factors associated with an athlete’s strength, coordination and body alignment. The Sports Injury Test allows you to take video of your athlete to assess lower body mechanics on a drop jump test, single leg squat and single leg triple hop. From the video, you will select specific frames to calculate knee separation distance during the drop jump test, knee and hip angles during a single leg squat and knee angles during a hop test. Within the app, you can add data for vertical jump, 1-minute sit up test, isokinetic tests, 20 yard dash, and VO2max. There are sections included for knee exam data, general notes and recommendations for clinicians. The app will compile a report to print out with side to side comparison of pre- and post-training tests. The Sportsmetrics Sports Injury Test was developed to work with the Sportsmetrics ACL injury prevention program. It is intended for use by physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers and coaches. These tests are not meant to replace professional testing or advice from a healthcare specialist.
