SWTracker is the 2nd generation of SWConnect, the IOS tracking option for interfacing to the personal tracking manager, Spotwalla.com.
Spotwalla is transitioning to a new website, and with that a new JSON based API. This change necessitated a rewrite of SWconnect, and gave me the chance to update to newer approved networking frameworks, using the newer Apple supported language, Swift.
SWTracker allows user to connect and track their travels on the new SpotWalla website: https://new.spotwalla.com. Spotwalla is a secure location manager, which supports several different devices (both physical and app based) for keeping track of location during travels. It is routinely used by long distance motorcycle riders, cyclists, boaters and even RV owners.
SWTracker allow you to connect with your account on Spotwalla, and tracks your progress on a timed basis. IOS users previously were able to use the Google Latitude app to share their location with SpotWalla, however, Latitude was discontinued in August, 2013.
SWTracker is intended to run in the background. General use once logged in, is to simply enable tracking, put the app in the background, put your phone in your pocket or phone stand and ride. Your location points will be stored with the device information on SpotWalla, and you can create custom trips which show your location over a specified time period.
BATTERY USAGE INFO:
SWTracker uses GPS information, and as such battery use will be similar to most navigation type of applications.
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
SWTracker now uses a new lower GPS accuracy strategy when the application is running on battery alone in the background, however it is always suggested to use external power when possible, and to turn off tracking in the app controls during periods when you are not moving.
