App Store Description

Experience the rhythmic pulse of Mauao with a walking performance specific to our maunga. Combining music with adventure, Te Manawataki o Mauao takes audiences on a journey that will evolve how they perceive the natural world. A meditative and immersive event, this piece uncovers the hidden treasures of Mount Maunganui.

Commissioned especially for Tauranga Arts Festival, this piece was created by renowned musician, Riki Gooch in collaboration with Sonicity. The creative team worked closely with the kaitiaki of Mauao to reflect and distill their own experience of the place and turn the landscape, topography and mythology into a one of a kind experience for local audiences.

Bring your phone and headphones and download the Te Manawataki o Mauao App for this free event genuinely rooted in place. A uniquely personal experience, the app responds to your geolocation; so take any track up the maunga and let original music and soundscape evoke land, skies and sea.

Te Manawataki o Mauao can be accessed from 21 October. You can start this walk from wherever you wish, however, we recommend beginning on the Pilot Bay side of Mauao.

Ngā mihinui o Mauao.
