Temple Hill Institute - “The Soul of Devlali” is an institute in the Gunner’s Mecca, serving officers of Indian Armed Forces since 1935. Since inception the institute has gone through several developments and transformations. The Temple Hill Institute (THI) was first constructed partly in 1935, as the main club, which now houses the Dining Halls, Billiards room and Lounge. It was then known as ‘Officers Recreation Club’. In 1943, the central verandah, cooking rooms and the Swimming Pool were added. The third building, comprising of the ball room, stage and Green room were constructed in 1944. The Guest rooms were added in 1972 and the Badminton Hall, pantry and outdoor dance floor in 1985, the Bar in the front lawn Water falls and Gymnasium were created.

In 1997, major renovations including that of the Bar (rechristened as “Warli Bar”), kitchen, as also the Bamboo Grove, Madhuban and Khusboo known as (Guns n Roses) were completed. The Ball Room received stained glass doors and its walls were decorated with Gujrati art work.

In 1999, the ‘Warli Bar’ was marbled and air-conditioned, the Pagoda, Rear Sit out, the 4 ACES Card Room, the ‘View’ Water Fall in Bamboo Grove and the Fallen Tree were created. In addition, the façade of THI was improved with Victorian design gates and befitting landscape. In 2000, new Gents and Ladies toilets were added alongwith covered verandah.\n\nDuring the year 2005-06,THI, underwent a facelift as the XIth Reunion approached. The gates wore a new shining black look, with floral view cutters adding to their beauty, the main entrance was widened, the boundary wall raised, the lawns extended, the ‘Kids Corner’ and ‘Hungry Hog’ were re-sited, the external flooring was retiled with interlocking blocks and the new red outdoor dance floor became the favourite site for all dance nights.

A new AC bar ‘CANNON’ and GUNS ‘n’ ROSES dining hall came into being giving the front lobby an exquisite look. The erstwhile ‘Temple Hill Hall’ was rechristened ‘Enigma’ as it got a new look. ‘TOPAZ and SAPPHIRE’ were equipped with state of art interiors to include AC facilities along with a freshly laid out pathway. The false paneling and the fresh tiling in the verandahs was done afresh and the complete building was also rewired. ‘Sunset Court’ was erected in the rear for members to sit and savour the ambience of the Palm Lake and the lush green Golf Course.
