App Store Description

Tentacles is an art piece made up of two parts. A large-scale, responsive projected environment displaying avatars in a shared space and a unique application that turns your Apple iPad, iPhone, iPod touch into a remote controller. Together, these two features of Tentacles enable individual viewers, players or passersby to participate in a multi-user, location-based, game-like experience projected into public spaces.

Tentacles has been developed for public cultural events and projected onto walls in galleries, multiple screens at festivals, and onto the sides of buildings. It has been installed in Belfast, Montreal, Sao Paulo, Toronto, and Weimar.

Tentacles is now installed at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) as part of the Talk to Me: Design and the Communication Between People and Objects, July 24 – November 07, 2011.

For more information about Tentacles and upcoming events, visit www.tentacles.ca.

Tentacles is an ongoing research/creation project undertaken collaboratively by faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students at the Mobile Media Lab, York University, the Mobile Experience Lab, Ontario College of Art and Design University in partnership with Addi.TV and the Media Lab at the Canadian Film Centre.

Creative Leads - Rob King, Michael Longford, Geoffrey Shea

This project was developed with seed funding from The Consortium on New Media, Creative, and Entertainment R&D in the Toronto Region (CONCERT), support from the Ontario Media Development Corporation, the Mobile Experience Innovation Centre (MEIC), and with the participation of Apple Canada.
