App Store Description

Use That Sugar App to track the amount of sugar you and your family are consuming and
uncover the ‘hidden’ sugar in packaged food and beverage products.

That Sugar App converts total sugars in food and drink and graphically displays it in ‘teaspoons’ that can be added to a daily tally to track your consumption. You can set a personal ‘sugar challenge’ to help you track the amount consumed in a day, week or month.

That Sugar App also allows you to find and add products by ‘Scanning’ the barcode or searching for common menu items using the ‘Search’ function. If you add sugar to your hot drinks or use it in cooking, the ‘Manual’ function allows you to add this sugar to your daily tally.

Share your progress with friends and family on Facebook to inspire them to explore how much sugar they are consuming and reduce their own intake

A few things to bear in mind when using the App:
• The app calculates ‘total’ sugars
• Sugars are added to processed or packaged products and are in the ingredient list on the pack
• Be aware of these hidden ‘added’ sugars and focus on reducing your intake of these sugars
• Natural sugars occur in whole foods like veg, fruit and dairy
• Whole fruit and vegetables (fresh, frozen and tinned) with no added sugar have been completely removed from That Sugar App. These natural sugars do not need to be removed from a healthy diet
• You can find generic alcohol products e.g. ‘Gin’, ‘Red Wine’ and ‘Beer’ using the ‘Search’ function, however branded alcohol and products with no nutritional information have been removed
• Some dairy products contain lactose, a naturally occurring sugar, as well as added sugar so information about lactose is not listed in the food database. If you’re consuming dairy products like milk, yoghurt or cheese, just remember that there is roughly 1 teaspoon of natural lactose sugar per 100 grams, so any more than that is going to be added sugar.
• Too much sugar is one aspect of a bigger nutritional picture for poor diet

That Sugar App is developed by Madman Production Company (the team behind That Sugar Film) in partnership with The George Institute for Global Health
