The City of Weatherford

Located in southeastern Custer County, Weatherford is situated one mile north of Interstate 40 on State Highway 54. The surrounding area was made available for homesteading during the Cheyenne-Arapaho Opening on April 19, 1892. The town was incorporated on August 3, 1898, and the population stood at 1,017 in 1900. Banker and civic leader Beeks Erick chose the townsite location. The original post office was located about two miles north of the present town, on the homestead of William John and Lorinda Powell Weatherford. Lorinda Weatherford served as postmaster.

Today, Weatherford offers places to see, ways to wander and signature experiences such as the famous HWY Route 66, which crosses our Main Street, Stafford Air & Space Museum, Wind Energy Park and the Heartland of America Museum. Visitors can get a mix of the charming, modern, and tried and true places to stay. In addition, there are can't miss spots to dine, drink and feast and it is the home of Southwestern Oklahoma State University!
