The Dragon and the Eagle

‘The Dragon and the Eagle’ tells the remarkable story of those Welsh men and women who took the huge risk of leaving behind what they knew by starting a new life in America. Their history is relived through an enhanced eBook format, which supplements the text with a combination of images, interactive graphics, audio and video (narrated by Cerys Matthews). This creates a rich, varied reading experience while discovering the way in which Welsh emigrants became Welsh-Americans, and how they maintained their distinctive identity over four hundred years.

About the Author:
Born and raised in Wales, Colin Thomas is a writer and director who produced C4’s history of Wales ‘The Dragon has Two Tongues’ and has directed numerous dramas and documentaries for ITV, S4C, C4 and the BBC. He has also written the book ‘Dreaming a City’ regarding the embattled city of Donetsk. His awards include a Prix Europa, the Jury Award at the Celtic Media Festival and, on three occasions, Best Documentary/Drama-Documentary award from BAFTA Cymru. The FT wrote of C4’s ‘The Divided Kingdom’ that it “bears the name of Colin Thomas as one of its directors, a guarantee of intelligence and scrupulous integrity”. In 2012 he was appointed Honorary Fellow at University of Newport for services to documentary.
