In 1949, the American Baptist City Mission Society (a region of American Baptist USA), founded the Lindley Avenue Baptist Church in Tarzana, California. Although the name that is now used is “The Lindley Church,” we are still an American Baptist Congregation (a Protestant christian church).

The Lindley Church consists of a group of people who have trusted Jesus Christ for the gift of eternal life and who desire to grow in their relationship to Him. The objective of The Lindley Church is to facilitate believer’s growth in an intimate relationship with the Lord, in a loving connection with others and in their own personal spiritual development. Our aim is to be:

A People of Prayer,
A People who Care,
A People who Share God’s Love.

Realizing our purpose and objectives include:

Relationship Each person must trust Jesus Christ, who died for sin and arose from the dead, for the gift of eternal life (John 3:16; Romans 6:23). Trusting Jesus Christ for eternal life establishes a relationship with the Lord (John 17:3).

Worship Jesus said we should worship in spirit and truth (John. 4:23). Praying, (Luke 18:1), singing (1 Corinthians. 14:26), and observing the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 26:26-29) are ways we honor and express our love for the Lord.

Fellowship Fellowshipping with other believers in a local church includes things like, baptism (Matthew 28:19), which identifies a believer with the Lord and with believers, giving (Luke 6:38), developing close relationships in small groups (Acts 2:42-44, 46) and loving one another (John 13:34).

Discipleship Jesus said make disciples (Matthew 28:19). When believers are fully trained, they will be like Christ (Luke 6:40), that is, loving (Galatians 5:22).

Servantship Jesus said that He “did not come to be served, but to serve” (Mark 10:45). If believers minister to each other as the Lord intends (Ephesians. 4:11-16), they will all end up more and more like Christ, which means they will end up being more and more loving and serving.

The people of Lindley are a diverse group. The Pastor is a Bible teacher, who is a contributor to the NKJV Study Bible. He is currently doing a series through the basic doctrines of the Bible on Sunday morning and the book of Genesis on Wednesday night. You can definitely grow spiritually in this family of believers.
