We have created this wonderful application driven by the sincere desire to help people maintain better postures and consequently have healthier, fuller and happier lives. The app is designed to minimise the dangers of sitting or standing with a bad posture and make it easier to create a positive habit for overall wellbeing.
How does it work? Just use the app as a normal web browser. While using it, the app will constantly keep track of the angle of the device. The device's angle corresponds closely to the angle of your head. In case the app detects that your device is not held at an angle corresponding to a healthy head tilt, it will signal you to correct your posture by displaying a red box at the top of the screen. Furthermore, you can turn on an additional feature from the settings menu that dims the screen every time you need to correct your head position. This feature makes the app less usable when the screen is dimmed and "forces" you to sit or stand properly.
At recent times, it is quite common to see people who are deeply focused on their small screens so much that their heads lower down and their spines get curved. These positions are not problematic for short periods of time. But once the duration of having a slouched back begins to increase, it might cause some unwanted consequences in both the short and the long term. In addition, the daily repetition of the same thing could lead to a myriad of unforeseen problems in all bodily systems that could cause serious harm.
We have tried many different concepts for this app and the current one seemed the best solution. The other ideas seemed pretty uninteresting and boring. The reason we created a browser with this embedded functionality is simple. Browsers are frequently used and the app could easily keep track of the user's body position angle in the background. Thus it would ensure that the head tilt is within a healthy range or notify the user to correct their posture in case there is a problem.
In no time, this would lead to a much greater awareness of your sitting or standing position and this positive behaviour will spread to the overall use of the device. The frequent (and sometimes short) use of browsers makes it perfect for the app to help people be more conscious of how they use their devices and remind them more frequently to stay upright even throughout the rest of the day.
Of course, we do not argue that it is sometimes slightly harder to do. It is so much easier, comfortable and relaxing to lower our head down and curve our backs. BUT, it is both dangerous and unhealthy. Some of the potential dangers of staying in a bad posture for prolonged periods of time are:
- headaches, neck pain, upper back pain, shoulder pain, permanent forward head posture and rounded shoulders, muscle damage, postural problems, reduced mobility, pinched nerves, reduced lung capacity and many others.
Depending on the angle of the head its weight on the spine varies tremendously.
0° - 5.4 kg / 12 lbs.
15° - 12.2 kg / 27 lbs.
30° - 18.1 kg / 40 lbs.
45° - 22.2 kg / 49 lbs.
60° - 27.2 kg / 60 lbs.
Imagine having all this weight for a long period of time for many days, weeks, months and even years in a row.
We hope our app helps you live a healthier and better life!
