VietOrigins

Increased global trade has made a wide variety of foods accessible to consumers around the world. Consumers now expect exotic foods to be available on their supermarket shelves. They also expect their foods to be safe and traceable. For Vietnamese producers, this means that they must provide accurate and reliable product information to buyers and ultimately consumers.

Under project funded by The Australian Embassy, The Asia Foundation, together with Ethitrade and Rural Development Center (RUDEC), develops a blockchain based provenance platform for Vietnamese agricultural products producers and exporters, which they can use to attach unique and authenticable signatures to their crops. Other participants in the value chain, including consumers, retailers, and importers, will be able to use the native app titled VietOrigins, also developed under this project, to trace the provenance of the goods they buy, including food safety and other certificates obtained by the producer.
