VINSmart® is an easy, inexpensive way to purchase vehicle history PLUS vehicle value reports. VINSmart provides consumers with easy access to vehicle history reports by simply entering a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Vehicle histories purchased through the VINSmart app are $9.99, for a report containing information supplied by the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) database, which includes data compiled by participating state Motor Vehicle Agencies, insurance carriers, salvage auctions, and auto recyclers. In addition, with every vehicle history report, VINSmart provides the vehicle value using data from industry-leader NADA (National Automobile Dealers Association).

VINSmart is significant to customers and dealers who are looking to purchase used cars. In order to provide customers with convenience, VINSmart’s free mobile app lets the user speak the VIN, or take a picture of the vehicle’s VIN barcode, instead of manually entering the VIN on a PC or phone. However, manually entering the VIN is also an option.

By accessing vehicle history data compiled by the Department of Justice, through their multi-year effort to create the NMVTIS database, VINSmart protects consumers from fraud and reduces the use of stolen vehicles. NMVTIS is used by US states and law enforcement agencies, and is the only nationwide database of vehicle history that DMVs, insurance carriers, and junk/salvage yards that are required by law to report into.
