What is it about?

Housed by augmented audio reality technologies, the work Voices from Your Future Past draws attention to the dream-like fallacy of technological illusion, the same illusion that focuses our perspective on the future and thereby removes us from the reality of the present. This work aims to acknowledge and harness the sense of disconnection we feel in the virtual worlds in which we have been forced to live and communicate, particularly in the last years. It is staged in full recognition that there are few real spaces where people can truly meet. Rather than dealing in discourses of hope, Voices from Your Future Past confronts the audience with the irreality of virtual presence, despite our human desire and necessity to connect with it.

“Voices from your future past” is a sound work conceived by sound artists and composers Davide Luciani, Fabio Perletta, spatial sound artist Jordan Juras, and for the Oslo edition they have collaborated with the Norwegian artist and vocalist Stine Janvin. It is curated by Daniela Arriado, produced by Art Republic and Mote Studio and presented by Son.AR, a collective and curatorial-research project dedicated to aural research in relation to mixed media realities, sonic arts and public spaces.

At Ultima Festival, the piece will come together with Ultima's venues and locations, bridging with the specific architectures and characters of Ultima’s venues and locations thus expanding the indoor program to public space. The audience will be invited to take a journey through their local environment, seeking out physical-virtual sites of listening experience.

Voices from your future past will also be presented as a live multichannel concert at Blå, the 16th September with the artists on stage.
