Inside, beautiful orchids and ferns line the walls of natural Palos Verdes stones. The edifice, constructed of redwood, glass and local stone, was built in 1949-51. Intimate seating of 100. Built as a national memorial to 18th-century scientist, philosopher and religious reformer Emanuel Swedenborg, Wayfarers Chapel was designed to serve as a chapel for meditation and prayer for wayfarers. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Because of its scenic location, Wayfarers Chapel is a popular site for weddings, both in the chapel itself and outside on the chapel grounds.
