The Top 40 Women in MICE 2018 was officially launched at a stylish breakfast function on 28 February 2018, hosted at the Sandton Convention Centre.
Now a highlight of the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) calendar, these awards are a rare opportunity to celebrate the exceptional women whose passion, motivation and dedication make this industry a better one through their involvement. It was therefore fitting that the speeches given were by two such women.
Amanda Kotze-Nhlapo, the Chief Convention Bureau Officer of the South African National Convention Bureau, gave the opening address. Amanda stressed the value that women bring to the professional world; “If you put a woman there, the job will get done!” She also spoke about an exciting opportunity of forging a partnership between the TOP 40 Women in MICE and the Women in Tourism Awards.
Next Candice Landie shared her inspiring story. Coming from a family who had little money to help her pursue her ambitions, Candice managed to build a successful media career with pure grit and determination. Today she is a three-time award winning Editor at 3S Media.
Candice also announced the new judging criteria for the Top 40 Women in MICE. These have been introduced to make the judging process more transparent, and are: leadership, passion, creativity, integrity, mentorship and relationships.
Lastly, the judging panel are revealed:
Chad Botha – National Manager of Inspire Furniture Rentals
Sue Gannon – Marketing Manager of EXSA Academy
Justin Hawes – Managing Director of Scan Display
Pieter Swart – Managing Director of Conference Consultancy SA
Rudi van der Vyver – CEO of SAACI
