Words and Wisdom
What is it about?
Are you looking for dementia-friendly engaging activities that provide hours of entertainment, cognitive stimulation and interesting conversation prompts that easily enhance social connections and delightfully interesting discussions? If the answer is yes, DementiAbility’s Words and Wisdom™ app is a “must have”! This app, which was developed using brain and behaviour dementia research, includes enjoyable, enriching, stimulating activities that have been set up for success. The large print books are interesting, fun and easy to read and understand. The trivia, math and spelling pages provide a choice of two answers, which affords a platform for successful outcomes. People with dementia often fail at many of life’s simple tasks, including leisure activities. The app has taken this into account. If a person answers a question incorrectly after two attempts, the avatar says, “Good job” or “Well done”. This is a “feel good” outcome, sending an important, positive message for those who need a little boost and a bit of encouragement. With the “two-choice” options, success is often found in reading and engaging, versus selecting “right” answer. The app also provides conversation prompts that are aimed at stimulating thoughts and opinions. While these pages can be enjoyed independently, they are also great discussion starters for family and friends. The app is filled with many mindful activities that stimulate the brain – and expose abilities – the DementiAbility way. Each activity provides the user with the option to select from three large-sized fonts. This app is also suitable for other user groups who benefit from simplified, engaging activities, such as those with developmental disabilities or autism. The goal of the app is to engage the brain – and have fun!
