App Store Description

To combat anti-Semitism and hate in every form, to remember Jews and others
who died and to honor those who are living, and to take advantage of current
technology, we present the Yom HaShoah Candle App.

The Yom HaShoah Candle App is an app where you light a virtual candle for
Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, on your iPhone. This year, Yom
HaShoah is Wednesday, April 27 - Thursday, April 28.

This app is the only app of its kind.

The app creates the opportunity for people to join the worldwide commemoration
of Yom HaShoah, by lighting a virtual candle, and pausing for a few minutes to
remember the millions of lives lost in the Holocaust. Even on a cell phone, the
flickering flame of a candle is mesmerizing and meaningful. Your candle will burn
virtually for 24 hours. After 24 hours, the flame will go out.

Features include:
-- A button for users to tap to “light” the candle when Yom HaShoah begins.
-- An explanation of what the yellow memorial Yom HaShoah candle is and why
we light it.
-- A paragraph of text to read after the candle is lit.
-- A button where the user can easily Share the Candle with Others, via Twitter,
Facebook, text message, email and more.

Why would you download this app?
-- You wish to observe Yom HaShoah in another way in addition to lighting a
physical Yahrzeit (memorial) candle.
--You live in a place where you cannot light candles, such as an apartment,
nursing home, or college dorm room.
--You want to teach your children and grandchildren the significant meaning of
the day, and they can light a candle safely, on their own, with the app.
--You will be out of town and can’t light the candle at home.
--You don’t have a candle and you want to light one.
--You find it meaningful to download apps like this on your phone.

After you download the app, when you choose to allow notifications, you will
receive a notification on the evening of April 27, reminding you to open the app
and light the candle. Please share the app with your family and friends under
Options > Share Candle with Others.

The app is developed by a high school senior in Solon, Ohio. The Federation of
Jewish Men’s Clubs (FJMC) is sponsoring the app. FJMC has a program of
sending physical yellow candles to Jewish congregations and groups around the
country. Groups then distribute the candles to individuals and families, so they
can light a physical candle. The app was originally developed by the Men of
Fairmount Temple at Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple in Beachwood, Ohio.
This is the fourth non-consecutive year of the app.
