What is it about?

The you and application(You and App) aims to increase resiliency and provide youth with support and community during social isolation. Students in grades K-12th will receive a 6-lesson curriculum series that aligns with the 5 social-emotional learning competencies. Each lesson is a 10-minute video that will live in the application. Lesson one, is intro to COVID-19 and it aims to increase awareness of the pandemic, it will list safety precautions and begin discussion surrounding difficult emotions. Students will be informed of what COVID-19 is, what they can do to prevent getting it, and how they can protect others around them. Students will identify difficult emotions brought about by the pandemic. Lesson two, is titled your community and its goal is for students to recognize how their family and friends validate and support them in ways that help build resiliency. Lesson three, is your tools and it will encourage students to apply critical thinking skills to evaluate information and create positive content using THINK criteria. Lesson four is your feelings and will teach students to manage difficult feelings associated with stress. Students will recognize feelings of stress, identify coping strategies, and address the stress using a positive strategy. Lesson five, your mind, body, spirit will highlight mindfulness strategies in order to help identify feelings, change perspective, and build resiliency. Lastly, lesson six is your world, and its objective is for students to focus on positive outcomes despite hardships in order build resiliency and cope with future challenges. The curriculum has been validated and peer-reviewed by team of researchers at the University of California, Irvine.
