Zika virus infection in humans has been reported since the 1950s. It is transmitted by the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes (which bite in the daytime), identical to dengue.

On 28 August 2016, MOH confirmed 41 cases of locally transmitted Zika virus infection in Singapore. Of these cases, 36 were identified through active testing of potentially infected persons.

All the cases are residents or workers in the Aljunied Crescent/ Sims Drive area. They are not known to have travelled to Zika-affected areas recently, and are thus likely to have been infected in Singapore. This confirms that local transmission of Zika virus infection has taken place.

Zika@SG app helps to create awareness of this infection by mapping out all the reported Zika locations.

Key features include
- View all the reported Zika cases on the map with respect to your current position.
- List all the locations according to their distance from your current location. Locations that are within 1 km from you are highlighted in red for easy reference.
- View all Zika related news in Singapore easily within the app.

More features will be added in the coming days.
