Even though most of us are impatiently awaiting the delivery of our iPhone 5 and the availability of iOS 6, there’s another event many of us are really excited about happening later this month: a new season of Dexter. In preparation of the continuation, Showtime Networks has finally added native iPad support to the companion app.

Now available in the universal iOS app format, Dexter v2.0 hasn’t come a long way since its debut nearly two years ago, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In those two years, Showtime has done a few minor user interface revamps and swapped out the Know The Code game with a photo booth option, plus the recent iPad optimization.

The UI for iPad isn’t far off from the iPhone and iPod touch layout. The three main differences are viewing size, the navigation bar being located to the left instead of along the bottom, and separation of the episode guide from the cast information and extras.

Accessed within the About area on iPad and The Show on iPhone or iPod touch, the Cast and Extras sections includes character and actor highlights, links to Dexter on Twitter, Dexter on Facebook, iDevice wallpapers, iOS games, podcasts, and previous seasons to purchase and soundtracks to purchase via iTunes.

Titled Guide on iPad but still contained within The Show area on iPhone, the episode guide has a brief synopsis, schedule information, any associated video clips, and a chance to enable a reminder for every episode up to two weeks away

In the Video area is one full episode and a huge assortment of clips, trailers, behind-the-scenes, and more.

Along with the Dexter companion app, you can interact with other fans seamlessly through Showtime Social and even watch nearly every episode right on your iPad using Showtime Anytime. Unfortunately, Showtime Anytime is only useful for Verizon FiOS TV and AT&T U-Verse TV customers who subscribe to Showtime.

The Dexter app is universally compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch running iOS 5.0 or later, and available in the App Store as a free download. Be sure to watch the Dexter season seven premiere on Sunday, Sep. 30 at 9:00 p.m. EDT.
