Super Hexagon Creator To Bring VVVVVV iOS Port To The App Store In 2014
Terry Cavanagh, creator of the popular Super Hexagon iOS port, has confirmed that he’ll be bringing VVVVVV to the App Store in 2014. Though other projects have been keeping Cavanagh busy recently, he’s confident that we’ll see VVVVVV for iOS reach our iDevices in the near future.
The news surfaced online in a post added to Cavanagh’s personal blog, where he explained: “VVVVVV is always going to be really damn important to me. It’s my final fantasy, the game that changed everything for me.” He added: “This year, I’m going to release VVVVVV on PS Vita, on iPad, on iPhone, on Android, on Ouya. And, if I can manage it, all at the same time. This will very likely be the last thing I ever do with VVVVVV, and I wanna go out with a bang!”
Though no firm release date has been confirmed, Cavanagh noted that we could see the game reach us later this month:
I’ve had an incomplete iOS version of the game working for over a year now, but other projects have kept me from finishing it up. I’d really like to get that out soon, though. Over Christmas I spent a little time finishing up the port, and I’m happy to say that the really hard stuff is done, now. I just need a week or two to sort out the details.
Cavanagh has a great track record with iOS development, and his Super Hexagon was awarded an “honorable mention” in our AppAdvice Game Of The Week article for Sept. 14, 2012, following its initial release in the App Store earlier that month.
In our original review of the game, my colleague Christine said:
Super Hexagon is incredibly challenging and addictive, which is exactly what you should get in an iPhone game. Even though I’m not nearly as good as others, I am finding it quite hard to put down. The music is great and I keep thinking I can beat my previous record, which leads me down that just-one-more-game mentality.
Below, we’ve included a trailer for VVVVVV, which should help you get excited for the forthcoming iOS port. We’ll let you know once it’s available to download.
In the meantime, Super Hexagon can be downloaded for $2.99, and it’s optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
