Cydia Tweak: Auki Supercharges The iOS Messages App

April 14, 2014

Auki is a new jailbreak tweak from Benno, designed by Surenix, that adds a number of useful new features to the iOS Messages app. You can pick up the new package for $3.99 on the Cydia Store, and it’s optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch.

First up, Auki makes it easier for users to access the Messages application. This comes in the form of two features: “quick compose” and “quick reply.” Quick compose, as you’d expect, allows users to initiate a pop-up Messages app window that can be used to send off an iMessage, SMS, or MMS from anywhere in Apple’s iOS. You can search for contacts, input text, and even add media to the outgoing message all from Auki’s interface; once you’re done, the pop-up window then disappears from view.

The same goes for quick reply, with this feature allowing users to quickly send off a reply to a message using a similar interface. A “Reply” icon will appear alongside banner notifications once Auki has been installed, and this obviously allows users to access the aforementioned window when a new message comes in.

Usefully, Auki’s quick compose interface can be accessed from either Notification Center or using a dedicated Activator action, however that’s not all. The package also allows users to “silence” individual contacts, and upon doing so, notifications from a muted contact will no longer alert users.

In the package’s release notes, the developer explains:

Do you have an ex-boyfriend/girlfriend, husband, wife, friend or even a group conversation that you just want to ignore and not have to deal with? Just swipe left on the the conversation cell you want, tap Silent, and you will not hear from them until you unsilent them. When you activate Silent mode, the conversation will not play alert sounds, notification banners or vibrate your phone. This also puts you in Stealth mode so your read receipts and type indicator will be disabled for all your Silent contacts.

All in all, Auki is a clever package that seems to be worth its $3.99 price tag. As mentioned, you can download the new jailbreak tweak on the Cydia Store now, and it’s optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch.
