International Flight Support Lands On Official Southwest Airlines App For iOS
June 18, 2014
The official iOS app of Southwest Airlines has received another notable update. With this update, the app is going international.
A couple of weeks from now, the popular U.S. airline will start operating international flights to Mexico and the Caribbean, effectively replacing AirTran AirWays, which it acquired in 2011:
¡Vámonos de Viaje! We’re charting new territory! On July 1st, Southwest begins operating flights to Mexico and the Caribbean. In line with this development, the Southwest Airlines app has been updated with the ability to check in for international flights and the ability to view flight status and setup notifications for international flights. Note that booking international flights, managing international trips, and editing passport information is currently supported only on the Southwest.com website. The latest update to Southwest Airlines for iOS also brings the ability to add boarding time to the mobile boarding pass, which enables passengers to pass security and board aircrafts with the app. Mobile boarding passes have been available at all U.S. airports served by Southwest Airlines since the app's update last month. Also including the usual bug fixes and improvements, the new version of Southwest Airlines is available now on the App Store for free. The app is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 4.3 or later. Released on the App Store back in December 2009, Southwest Airlines was updated to version 2.0 in November last year with a new design and a number of new features. [gallery]
