May 21, 2014
Southwest Airlines, the official iOS app of the popular U.S. airline of the same name, has just been updated to version 2.4 with several welcome enhancements. Foremost among these is the expansion of the app's Mobile Boarding Pass feature, which enables customers to pass security and board aircrafts just by using their iOS devices. Previously supported in only eight cities, the feature is now available to passengers traveling on Southwest Airlines-operated flights originating in airports in the following 28 cities:
ABQ, ATL, AUS, BWI, BNA, BUR, DAL, DEN, FLL, HOU, LAS, LAX, MCI, MCO, MDW, MKE, MSY, OAK, PHL, PHX, RSW, SAN, SFO, SJC, SMF, SNA, STL, TPA
Southwest Airlines 2.4 also features new upcoming trip cards on the homepage, which offer quick viewing of important information, including Flight Status, Boarding Position, and Gate Information. It also adds the ability to access popular tools right from the home screen, including Checkin and Mobile Boarding Pass options. Also including some bug fixes and miscellaneous improvements, the new version of Southwest Airlines is available now in the App Store for free. The app is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 4.3 or later. Released in the App Store back in December 2009, Southwest Airlines was updated to version 2.0 in November last year with a new design and a number of new features.
