Plex app updated with iPhone 6 optimization, improved iOS 8 compatibility and more

October 28, 2014

The official iOS companion app of the popular media server Plex has just been updated with several improvements, including support for the new iPhones.

Indeed, Plex for iOS has been optimized for the larger displays of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, thereby providing more screen space for your videos, photos, and other streamed content.

The first to arrive for the app since the release of iOS 8 last month, the latest update to Plex also offers improved compatibility with the latest major version of Apple’s mobile operating system.

In addition, the new version of Plex includes support for the latest software for Google’s Chromecast digital media streaming stick. But as noted in the release notes of Plex’s previous major update, which introduced playlists, trailers, and changes in AirPlay and Chromecast behavior:

Chromecast is no longer supported on devices running iOS 5. Previously, Plex used a pre-release version of the Chromecast software from Google that we were fortunate enough to have access to. Apps are now required to use the final version of the software, which only supports devices running iOS 6 or newer.

The new version of Plex also includes minor bug fixes.

Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, Plex is available on the App Store for $4.99.
