Twitter Unveils New Safety Features Including Advanced Filters
A number of new Twitter safety features have just been announced by the social networking giant. The new measures are in addition to changes announced a month ago.
Attacking the trolls
Users will soon be able to take advantage of an expanded mute future using the service's official app.
First up, the service is looking to become more proactive and identify trolls and abusive accounts even if they haven’t been reported. Twitter will then limit certain features for a set amount of time. An example includes allowing only their followers to see their tweets.
The filtering tools for notifications are also taking a big step up. Users will soon be able to filter out anything from users without a profile photo along with an unverified email address or phone number.
Mute filters originally unveiled in November are also gaining new features. You’ll be able to mute certain keywords, phrases, or entire conversations for a certain amount of time – a day, week, month, or indefinitely.
Also, anyone who reports a Twitter account for harassment will see more information in their notification tab including when the report has been received and if further action has been taken.
All of the changes will roll out in the “coming days and weeks.”
Back in February, Twitter announced a new “safe search” feature and that it was taking specific steps to step people who have previously been permanently banned from opening new accounts to abuse and harass.
The official Twitter app is designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and all iPad models. It can be downloaded now on the App Store for free.
