Plan Carefully What You Plant in Topsoil, a Garden Puzzle for iOS
The annual edition of GDC, Game Developers Conference, is happening right now at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. Our own Trevor Sheridan is there checking out all of the hot new games planned for 2017. We’ve learned of a new garden puzzle coming in a few weeks called Topsoil.
From Giraffes to a Garden Puzzle
The developer behind Topsoil, Nico Prins, previously brought us oh my giraffe. In that game, you play as an adorable and stretchy giraffe running through the savanna, eating fruits while being chased by lions. In Topsoil, Prins has constructed a garden puzzle game in which your goal is to harvest as many plants as you can before your tiles all fill up. You place plants of the same type next to each other, then harvest them all at once.
It’s Not as Simple as it Sounds
In Topsoil, whenever you harvest plants, the soil changes. The tiles will become a different color, and this will influence what types of plants or trees you can place in that section of your garden puzzle. The more plants you harvest at once, the more points you earn. You also turn over more soil, but watch what color lies beneath to make sure you’ll be able to keep sowing the seeds you want. Keep growing your garden, and you discover new seeds, tall trees, and friendly birds. But when your garden fills up, it’s game over.
Topsoil is Coming Soon to the App Store
Prins says Topsoil should be released in a few weeks on the App Store. The game will be free to download and play, with video ads to earn more plays for that day. Check out the preview of the game along with our interview with Prins below.
