Endlessly Fall While Growing Your Pixel And Destroying Others In Mega Dead Pixel

October 17, 2013

Mega Dead Pixel (Free) by Chillingo Ltd is an endless falling game with an interesting retro twist. It also features a unique goal with concepts that have not been seen in other endless games.

Rather than jumping on platforms, falling through obstacles, or the like, Mega Dead Pixels has a few elements to the game. While your “pixel” falls, you will encounter a variety of situations. Your only job is to move your pixel by tapping on the left or right side of the screen, while trying to to touch other pixels, crash through them, collect coins, or grown your own pixel.

Touching the side of another pixel will make it colorful, while bringing you closer to becoming a “megapixel.” After touching other pixels a few times, which will cause the on-screen meter to fill up, your pixel will grow into a megapixel. This allows you to smash through pixels to destroy them. You can also grow your pixel by collecting small, white squares, although collecting these will only make it marginally larger. This will still allow you to smash through other pixels, but you will shrink to your original size a lot more quickly. If you crash into another pixel while already being at your smallest size, the game ends.

The main aspect of Mega Dead Pixel that, in my opinion, sets it apart from other endless games, is the idea of having multiple goals in the game. While going as far of a distance as one can achieve is the main goal, there are also the aspects of touching other pixels, crashing into them, growing your pixel, and collecting coins. This keeps the game fresh and appealing, as there are many factors to worry about other than staying “alive” for as long as possible.

There are also coins to collect along the way. While your score in the game is counted in meters, coins will actually allow you to purchase items from the shop. These include customizations for your pixel like shapes and hats, along with gameplay enhancements such as bonuses and new worlds (which are basically like themes for the game).

Additional coins can be purchased via in-app purchasing, along with “megatokens,” which can be redeemed toward reviving your pixel in the game.

Mega Dead Pixel is the best endless arcade game that I have played in a while. The graphics, sounds, and the different elements of gameplay truly make it an exciting experience for me. I'm confident that it will do the same for you. If you agree, check out Mega Dead Pixel in the App Store for free.
