中華古代詩詞文化，源於蔔祀祈祝，萌於民謠俚曲，興於頌諷詠誌。可惜，最早文字輯錄詩集唯《詩經》僅存，且幸賴孔子“刪詩”以傳世。
“風雅頌”繼春秋而詠至戰國，蒙楚人屈原獨辟蹊徑衍為騷體，其古雅深邃，實乃先秦詩文化獨秀壹枝。秦亡而漢，樂府興，詩苑萬象更新。入於魏，五言騰踴，尤見“三曹父子”“建安七子”創建輝煌。魏晉之交，有“竹林七賢”；西晉有三張、二陸、兩潘、壹左，東晉更有陶翁。此期間，詩歌境界與視野得以拓寬，詠唱愈加膾炙人口。滄海桑田，歲月交至南北朝之宋齊梁陳，其四言、五言、六言、七言，已不壹而足，“大小謝”“七言之祖”“竟陵八友”脫穎而出，田園詩、山水詩，清逸峻秀，齊梁體堪稱獨占唐前春色
