App Store Description

Few people are blessed with photographic memory. They can recall any information immediately. Most of us have to painstakingly remember. If we can't, we search the missing information online.

With this application you can access information on the web by simply snapping a photo, just like the prodigies might.

2588 is created with newspapers in mind. You are reading an article in the print version. You are interested. To get more information you would have to fire up your browser, go to the website, think about some keywords for the search field of the website, type them in, evaluate the results and maybe start from scratch if your search didn't produce the expected results...

Image recognition offers one more advantage. By linking print content to the web, you will find more up to date information if your newspaper has created any. You would have to be a mentalist with photographic memory.

2588 also works on other print content bearing the marker such as i.e. advertisements, labels, posters etc. To kickstart 2588, some content may be recognizable without marker. You can find a list of such content on our website.

But let's not get too excited. 2588 needs to grow organically. Starting off in Switzerland, its capabilities will be extended to other regions in due cause. As Newspapers are distributed globally, access is already now unrestricted.

One last thing: Since 2588 is created for curious people, you are probably wondering about the name. In Unicode, the character 2588 depicts a full block. Full blocks are used to request input. When you snap a photo with the application you are generating an input - so it makes sense. Unicode characters can be easily inserted using the keyboard. Journalists, writing all those interesting articles, are not burdened with finding some marker image online or in their companies file structure. They can focus on research and writing while still retaining the possibility to provide you with the recognition capability.
